Assistant/Associate Professor
Biliteracy/Literacy within Latino/a Communities

The Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio, seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor in the area of biliteracy for Latino/a populations to begin Fall 2012, pending budget approval. We seek a scholar with expertise in biliteracy and one or more of the following areas: multiple literacies, bilingualism, classroom-based research, language minority education, or other related areas.

The department offers a Ph.D. in Culture, Literacy, and Language, a Master of Arts degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies, Master of Arts degree in TESL, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mexican American Studies. It also provides undergraduate and graduate programs for teacher certification as well as support courses for other programs in the University.

Responsibilities include: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses, advise masters and doctoral degree students, pursue an active research agenda, and contribute to the university and community through service activities.

Associate Professor
-Required Qualifications: Doctorate with specialization in Biliteracy, Multiple Literacies, Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, Educational Linguistics, Literacy, Education or a closely related area. University teaching experience at the graduate level. Evidence of an established research agenda and strong publication record in biliteracy. Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
-Preferred Qualifications: Directing doctoral student research, record of securing research support, proficiency in academic Spanish, experience conducting research among US/Latino populations.

Assistant Professor
-Required Qualifications: Doctorate with specialization in Biliteracy, Multiple Literacies, Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, Educational Linguistics, Literacy, Education or a closely related area. Interest in pursuing a research agenda in biliteracy. Doctorate in hand by date of appointment. Evidence of research activity and publication in one or more of the areas listed above.
-Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, experience advising graduate students, record of securing research support, proficiency in academic Spanish, experience conducting research among US/Latino populations.

Appointment: Starting with the Fall 2012 semester at the level of Associate Professor with tenure or Assistant Professor without tenure. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
