STARTALK Excellence in Leadership Summer Institute for Chinese, Hindi, Persian, Turkish, and Urdu

May 18-22, 2011
Penn Language Center

Penn Language Center hosts the first STARTALK Excellence in Leadership Summer Institute. The program of the Summer Institute is designed to provide participants with:

•a morning lecture series focusing on curricular design, articulation, performance assessment and teaching through technology
•an afternoon workshop series designing standard-based curricula, thematic units addressing the three modes of communication within the four modalities and materials for performance assessment
•a technology workshop focusing on distance learning within the National Standard Paradigm
•a platform for networking with fellow participants during and after the program

For each of the languages, the Summer Institute invites principals, supervisors of world language and/or language program directors who wish to implement curricular changes and gain leadership know-how in an effort to strengthen, expand and solidify their respective programs. These leaders become STARTALK multiplicators who in turn will promote and implement programmatic and curricular changes. Each participant must have partaken in a previous STARTALK program and be currently in a position to engage in succinct field building opportunities.
